i first came upon the jazz butcher entirely by chance. i was at a flea market, and there was a big box of cassettes—a format i’m still drawn to despite their utter uselessness to me, not having a tapeplayer (not to mention i prob’ly wouldn’t even use one if i did); some silly borrowed nostalgia fetishizing, i suppose, the sort i should be smarter than—and that name stood out; a comp called bloody nonsense. as it turned out, the guy selling the cassettes was a real collector/geek and gave his stamp of approval (and attested to its obscurity—even better!). and as it further turned out, the jazz butcher really is pretty great.
