i watched natural born killers a little while ago and i’m not sure how facetious stone is being but i think it’d only work if it knows it’s “edgy” (as opposed to edgy); which is to say a parody of satire—stuff like transmetropolitan, that gets high off the first whiff of insight and doesn’t wait to come back down before it does its thing; thinks it’s some avenging angel for realizing that hey, american culture/people in general are fucked up and hypocritical! likewise the pomoschizo barrage: if it’s supposed to be some commentary on modern sensationalism/information overload it’s too sledgehammer to say anything—it’s only clever if that’s the joke. (bobcat goldthwait’s newest looked like it suffered from something kinda similar but worse.)
