there’s this little cluster of bands—offhand: wolf parade, handsome furs, final fantasy, frog eyes maybe—who are lumped together in my mind under something like “quirky/dreamy canadian folksyish indie-pop” (no idea how fair/accurate that actually is) who i never had even a tinge of interest in. (re:final fantasy specifically; nothing rubs me the wrong way like cutesy, and if he poos clouds as an album title isn’t the fucking epitome of cutesy i don’t know what is.)
i saw fucked up once and they were pretty good—although it was more about the general energy than the music per se—and they seem like really awesome people, but the records just do nothing for me. “the other shoe” is a good song.
i asked a friend from montreal if i should give a fuck about grimes and she said “no”, and so far nothing has compelled me otherwise.
i was around for the first maybe three songs of a plants&animals set at hpx. they had already drifted out of focus after like one. i left.
remember when tokyo police club were gonna be big? (i only heard them a couple times, but my half-remembered glance impression: the most half-hearted “punchy” ever.)
