i can never (not that i have many opportunities) describe anyone or anything as “righteous”: my brain reflexively pencils in the “self-“, an unspoken ball&chain. it’s a word of such epic scope that i can scarcely imagine anything—in this day and age, anyway; it evokes to me a certain old rhetoric grandiosity—wearing it well. to describe something as righteous would seem to breathe airs of pretension upon it. (exception is of course made for the bill&ted sense of the word.)
