i watched the breakfast club again tonight. the score struck me as really odd, often bordering on comical. andrew is so boring. the dancing scene seems more jarring every time but i guess maybe that’s part of its charm. the “FAG” on bender’s locker bothers me more every time. allison is my favoriter character every time.
my mother used to say regis philbin’s teeth reminded her of piano keys. i remember an episode of who wants to be a millionaire once where someone had to use a lifeline on “which color do blue and yellow make?”
add to the list of things i don’t like about reddit: the wretchedly smug, cutesy portmanteau “redditor”. social question; portmanteaus: have we killed them yet?
i never chew gum anymore. i used to all the time. i remember juicy fruit used to be exactly $2 for the 17-stick pack. i like when i can pay for things in a single coin. (juicy fruit entered a slow decline upon the induction of the longer-lasting flavor. the tabs have always been junk.)
i can’t whistle. this bothers me occasionally. i can snap my fingers just barely competently—that, moreso, i’d like to be able to do good.
apparently in america the things they call smarties are like the things we call rockets? spins my head to fathom.
movie pitch: “high school grandma”. joe, average superbad-esque high schooler…but his mom is 100+++ years old!!! (like really absurdly ancient) antics include: joe thinks his mother is out getting groceries. he and his friends accidentally hotbox the basement. she accuses him of running an opium den down there
"anti-rockist" sounds like something an mra would say.
on the night before my final bio exam in grade 10, i was up all night trying to cram a year’s worth of notes. the tv was on the whole time, and as i was flagging, about 4am or something, ghost was on and i turned to that because there really was nothing else on. i didn’t think it was even good, but it somehow hooked my half-asleep brain and kept me awake enough that i could study in the commercial breaks. somehow i passed that exam and for that i will always love patrick swayze.
good channels (meaning good selections and no censorship) for late night movies in canada: showcase, aptn (aboriginal peoples television network). bravo sometimes. peachtree if you’re desperate. space used to be. good movies i was introduced to by late night tv (channels where remembered): twin falls idaho (bravo), demolition man (aptn—who show it regularly, and as a matter of principle i watch it everytime), strange days (space), predator 2 (space), halloween iii: season of the witch (space).
halloween iii: season of the witch is awesome.
one thing that’s always stuck around from my childhood is the big 8 lemon. this is probably just an atlantic canada thing, but our sobeys have a line of off-brand soft drinks called big 8, and the lemonade from that line featured a really cool cross-hatchy drawing of a lemon wearing sunglasses laying on a beach chair. i wish i could find an image because it was awesome.
